The Book called Facebook

10 years from now, IITs will start a new course in their Humanities Department and it will be a core course in all the programs. It will be FBL100. You may have guessed its full extent till now. Its course title will be Introduction and application of Facebook.

So will be the chaos caused by Facebook and its impact on Facebook that no one will be left untouched. People will die to facebook. It will become a norm, a verb like google has become. And it will become a household thing. People will talk solely on facebook. No phones, no emails. People like to make hype of things, and even the geekiest of all people (leave Himanshu Nayar apart, he is a class apart) cannot live without it. What are the reasons?

People have these days, grown into a chit chat machine. They like to create buzz, like to make people cry out in awe and keep hands on their mouths and get surprised. Facebook is making people write more than what they speak, literally. And it is not a thing to cherish, it is a thing to mourn, where as soon as a person commits a mistake or appears to commit one, his fan page is opened in to the facebook. People swarm onto it like hungry beasts and instantly that page becomes top news. Also, a status update, a wall post or literally anything can turn into a battleground. A person who did nothing but the sin of commenting on one of these battleground, ends up being the silent spectator of this ruthless fight. Someone like him, who was fortunate enough to have not been online at that time, when comes online, sees hundreds of notifications. What a pity!

This is a case with all the IITians, fighting on facebook, as though the fights for the trophies or the poltu were not sufficient to feed them. No one analyses his or her book as closely and intently as they do with the face book. It is the daily dose of some and many, and life for so many else. You never feel distant from your friends as you fight with them, laugh with them and then, open a fan page with them for the third friend. It is amazing, and confusing.

The only good thing that face book has done, and the thing I am particularly interested in is that it had made people write better. No wonder, people are able to express themselves so well these days, you start appreciating them. Sarcasm, hatred, humor, motivation, gratitude, all seems so easy to express these days. Even the person, who wrote so bad a month ago, now writes poetry for the other on facebook. Isn’t it amazing?

Facebook is a revolution and it is growing; Set out to rule the world, and control it.
